At the end of January, 20 schools competed in the Region XII Academic Decathlon. Of those participating campuses, School of Science and Engineering and School for the Talented & Gifted received the highest team points in their respective divisions: medium and small.

Four teams advanced to the Academic Decathlon State Meet in their respective conferences. Advancing schools are the School of Science & Engineering, School for the Talented & Gifted, Dr. Wright L. Lassiter Jr. Early College High School, and The School of Business Management. The decathletes will compete in the 2022 Academic Decathlon State Meet February 24-27 in Frisco and San Antonio.

With the theme Water: A Most Essential Resource, more than 150 secondary students were tested in several areas including music, art, literature, math, economics, and social science.
