STAAR data shows pandemic impacted student learning

As expected, the recently released STAAR data shows the pandemic negatively impacted student learning, both across the state and in Dallas ISD. Meanwhile, Dallas ISD leaders say a comprehensive approach to address the learning loss caused by the pandemic will help set up students for future success.

After several years of increases in student performance in Dallas ISD, the STAAR results show a decline in math and reading scores for elementary and middle school students.

“Obviously, it’s a big disappointment to see that several years of academic gains have been interrupted by the pandemic,” Deputy Superintendent Susana Cordova told NBC DFW.

District leaders say that increased tutoring opportunities, smaller class sizes, extended school days and high quality instruction will help students catch up over time.
