Seventy-five outstanding students receive scholarships funded in Superintendent Hinojosa’s honor


Seventy-five outstanding graduating seniors are receiving the annual Superintendent’s Scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each.

For over a decade, the Superintendent’s Scholarships have been funded with proceeds from the annual Superintendent’s Scholarship Golf Tournament supported by members of the business and civic community.

The student recipients were selected from each of our comprehensive high schools based on academic achievement, character, service and financial need.

Green-Garner Scholarship

Kamila Vargas, a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School, is the 2021 recipient of the $10,000 Green-Garner scholarship presented by the Council of Great City Schools in honor of Michael Hinojosa’s selection as the Council’s 2021 Green-Garner Superintendent of the Year.

Nationally, only one student is receiving this esteemed honor. Ms. Vargas was selected from among her peers in the Class of 2021 based on her record of scholarship, character, recommendations, and the quality of her scholarship application packet.

Superintendent’s Leadership Teen Board Scholarships

Jocelyn Viridiana Contreras-Vazquez, a senior at L.G. Pinkston High School, and Nicholas Jones, a senior at the School of Business and Management at Townview Center, are recipients of the 2021 Superintendent’s Leadership Scholarship in the amount of $5,000. Presented for the first time this year, the scholarships recognize members of the Dallas ISD Teen School Board for their leadership skills, community service, academic success, good character, and the promise of future achievement.
