Mauricio García and Nancy Cazarez are proud new parents of a six-month-old baby, after being married for two years.

Their story began at Annie Webb Blanton Elementary School, while Cazarez taught second grade and García first grade.

Together, they have worked a total of 25 years in Dallas ISD. Cazarez remains a Blanton Bruin, teaching third grade, and while García remains a Blanton Bruin at heart, he’s now a coordinator for the district’s Dual Language Department.

“Dallas ISD is home to us because we both serve with fidelity the children of Dallas ISD,” says García. “We worked together at Blanton Elementary for almost six years serving students in the Pleasant Grove community. Even though we don’t live in that community, it has become our home.”

Although they don’t live in Pleasant Grove, García and Cazarez, along with their baby girl, Emma, spend a lot of time in the community where they started their teaching careers and where their journey began. They get excited to see students and their families when they are out and about in Pleasant Grove, doing everything from grocery shopping to visiting a paleteria (ice cream shop) to enjoy a Latin frozen treat.
