Despite the pandemic, Dallas ISD competitive robotics continues to shine. This year 24 teams at 13 schools advanced to the VEX Robotics World Championship taking place from May 24-29. The teams will compete virtually from their school and use video cameras to capture the action as well as communicate with teams from all over the world.

Additionally, 14 FIRST LEGO League teams advanced to the North Texas Regional Championship. Of the 14 teams that competed, Harry Stone IB Academy and Lakewood Elementary will advance to the Texas Cup at the Alamodome in San Antonio. STAG at Pleasant Grove and Sudie Williams received award honors for Innovation Projects and Core Values.

Also, advancing to the Texas Cup are the RoboCats from Woodrow Wilson High School. The Texas Cup is the only in-person UIL robotics championship for 2021.

Robotics competitions pique students’ interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
