In 2003, Steven and Yvonne Morgan were part of the athletics staff at Skyline High School. Steven was a varsity defensive line coach, and Yvonne was an assistant to the athletic trainer. Little did they know that their shared passion for athletics and empowering students to succeed would lead to a love connection that would culminate in marriage in 2005. Sixteen years later, they still love sports, and TOGETHER they are still empowering students to succeed in Dallas ISD.
Steven is a proud Dallas ISD alum who graduated from Skyline. After graduation, he attended UCLA, and returned to Skyline after accepting a coaching position that enabled him to help coach his younger brother in football. He later taught at Hulcy Middle School, and he now teaches fifth graders at Charles Gill Elementary School.
Yvonne is a native of El Paso, who moved to the DFW area to attend Texas Women’s University with the goal of becoming a teacher. She made her way through college by working as a licensed vocational nurse. After some challenges, she scored a paid teaching internship at Dallas ISD, and realized her dream of becoming a teacher. Yvonne started at Skyline in the athletics department, later transferring to the School of Health Professions at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, where she used her athletic training background to develop a sports medicine pathway at the school.
While the Morgans live in Forney, they choose to stay at Dallas ISD because it is where they feel they can make the biggest impact in the lives of students who remind them of where they came from. Steven mentors students he connects with, including refugee students. Yvonne championed an industry-based certification for her pathway, and helps students tap into the resources available to pay for college.
