On Saturday, Jan. 16, the Dallas ISD Teen School Board held its first community service project of the 2020-2021 school year. The goal of the project, led by Teen School Board Community Service Chair Ethan Tolentino, was to create desks for underserved students throughout Dallas ISD.
The event took place at the Career Institute North facility, as teachers, administrators, and other staff joined in with the Teen School Board representatives to lend a helping hand. For many of the student volunteers, this was their first experience working in carpentry, and it afforded them the opportunity to learn how to use many different types of tools and equipment.
The event also allowed many of the representatives to meet in person and served as a great way to form new relationships and expand upon team building skills. Overall, the event was a great success and produced 13 new desks. The Teen School Board has partnered with principals from each of the nine Dallas ISD trustee districts to identify student recipients of the desks and to coordinate delivery to students’ homes.
