Food Management, a publication focused on noncommercial foodservice industry, named Dallas ISD’s Hacienda Bowl as one of the 34 Readers’ Picks of the best student meals served in the country.
Dallas ISD Food and Child Nutrition Services serves the Hacienda Bowl at elementary and secondary schools. The dish features seasoned turkey on a layer of brown rice, served with a student’s favorite toppings.
“We are excited that one of our delicious meals earned this national recognition,” said Michael Rosenberger, Executive Director of Dallas ISD’s Food & Child Nutrition Services. “Dallas ISD is dedicated to providing healthy, nutritious meals to students that they actually want to eat.”
To qualify for the award, all meals had to meet USDA requirements under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act and be served as a reimbursable meal under the National School Lunch or Breakfast programs. The entrée was the main component used in judging the competition, though full meals with sides that complement the entrée were given additional points. Food Management editors did the judging.
