Dallas ISD is significantly increasing its internet bandwidth so students can successfully learn from anywhere

Dallas ISD is significantly increasing its internet bandwidth across the district to provide the best internet experience possible.

On Nov. 13, Dallas ISD increased its bandwidth from 20 gigabytes per second to 40 gigabytes per second. By Dec. 18, the bandwidth will increase to 100 gigabytes per second.

Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data transmitted over an internet connection in a given amount of time. Exceeding bandwidth capacity can result in poor video and sound quality–especially in Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings– and cause dropped connections.

Deputy Chief of Technology Marlon Shears said the increased bandwidth puts Dallas ISD in great position moving forward.

“We are investing in foundational infrastructure that will allow our students to learn from anywhere, removing technical barriers hampering hybrid learning,” Shears said.
