AVID Spirit Week ended with AVID Virtual Senior Signing Day on May 1, National Signing College Day, with the Better Make Room campaign.
More than 12 high schools participated, with a total of over 300 seniors participating and sharing their college decision. Parents participated and principals, AVID teachers and counselors gave words of encouragement and advice. A few campuses also had cheerleaders and dancers perform as a warm welcome. Each senior had the opportunity to share their college decision, scholarships earned and give thanks to all who had supported them throughout their education.
College decision signs, balloons, and décor were shared by families as students announced their decision. Tears were shed, laughter spread, and smiles were infectious making it a memorable occasion. Two Dallas ISD AVID Seniors received the Dell scholarship, which includes $20,000, a laptop, and $500 annual textbook scholarship, in which students apply and go through a rigorous process competing against millions of students across the nation.
Additionally, a couple of students also received the Dallas ISD Superintendent’s scholarship, for $2,500. This year, Dallas ISD AVID seniors raised over a reported 5 million dollars in scholarships. This was definitely a moment of reflection for everyone to remember our seniors and embrace all the great memories that were formed.
