The new elementary school currently under construction in Wilmer, TX, is named for 14-term Dallas Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson.

Dallas iSD and Wilmer city officials turn dirt in September 2019 for what is now named the Eddie Bernice Johnson Elementary School.

Eddie Bernice Johnson Elementary School will consist of 84,000 square feet of classrooms and other learning spaces designed to serve 600 students in grades pre-K through five. The $23 million school will include a soccer field, basketball court and playground. Infrastructure improvements to serve the new facility will include expansion of nearby Goode Street to a four-lane thoroughfare with a traffic signal at Belt Line Road. The Downtown Montessori at Ida B. Wells Academy will open in August.

The district’s newest transformation campus is now called the Downtown Montessori at Ida B. Wells Academy. The Downtown Montessori at Ida B. Wells Academy will open in August to serve students in pre-K through second grade. Montessori schools, designed for independent thinkers who enjoy hands-on, collaborative learning, are popular with Dallas families. To apply to the Montessori school, go here.
