Free school supplies and health checkups for Dallas ISD students at Mayor’s Back To School Fair

The 23rd-annual Mayor’s Back To School Fair will provide Dallas parents and children with everything they need for the first day of school.

There will be several free services, including health checkups, dental and vision screenings, immunizations and haircuts. All Dallas ISD families are eligible to receive school supplies at no cost.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson introduced the 23rd Dallas Mayor’s Back To School Fair during a press conference in City Hall, July 9th, 2019.

“I’ve experienced first hand the struggles that it takes, financially and from a time perspective, to get children ready for that first day of school,” Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said. “When kids show up to school on the first day and they’ve been properly immunized, and they’ve had their dental screenings and [have]everything they need; it’s so critical to starting off the school year on the right foot and finishing the school year strong.”

The event is free and open to the public and will take place in the Centennial Building at Fair Park on Aug. 2 from 8 a.m.–2 p.m. The fair typically attracts approximately 35,000 children and family members, according to a press release.

Students who qualify can get free eyeglasses and six pairs of underwear. Businesses, hospitals, nonprofits and government agencies will offer the latest information on education, health and social services.

Dallas ISD parents can pre-register to guarantee their school supplies and save time entering the fair. Fourteen pre-registration events to be held across Dallas from July 13–27. Attendees can also enroll on‑site at the event.

To register, a Dallas ISD families must show proof that student or students attend a Dallas ISD school by providing a student ID number. Student ID numbers can be verified by showing ONE of the following documents:

  • Most recent student report card
  • Letter from student’s school stating the student attends a Dallas ISD school
  • Student ID card
  • Printout from the online Parent Portal that shows student’s ID number
