On Monday, Oct. 1, M.B. Henderson Elementary School—along with 10 community partners from the Federal Reserve Bank and four parent volunteers from the community—joined together in the library media center to read aloud to students from books written and/or illustrated by Hispanic Americans.

This yearly event organized by librarian Ms. Dowell reinforced the importance of literacy as a skill that requires mastery, as well as showcased the cultural and literary contributions of Hispanic Americans to the development of the United States. Every student, teacher, and staff member attended this schoolwide literacy event.

Dallas ISD celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is Sept. 15–Oct. 15.
