On Friday, Aug. 10, Dallas ISD’s Operations Division marked a couple of firsts.

The in-service and back-to-school kickoff celebration marked the first time that all of Operations gathered under one roof. The day also marked the first time that newly hired drivers in Student Transportation Services were included as district employees.

The Dallas Cowboys helped pump up the crowd Friday morning an appearance of the Rhythm & Blue Drumline and mascot Rowdy, who drilled footballs into the arms of excited fans. A crew danced to the song “Y.M.C.A.” as a break between more serious work.

Superintendent Michael Hinojosa addressed the crowd, thanking them for their hard work. Deputy Superintendent of Operations Scott Layne thanked the leaders of Operations’ individual departments and told all the employees that their work is crucially important, especially on the first day of school. Many visitors will form lasting impressions about the campuses based on how they look. Further, Operations employees provide a safe and healthy environment for students and staff so that learning can happen.

Employees heard presentations from Risk Management, Racial Equity, Payroll and Benefits to round out their orientation for the year.
