U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Laurie Hernandez visited students at John Pershing Elementary School to share with them her experience as an Olympic athlete.

Hernandez also spent time reading books to students as a way of promoting a passion for literacy among the youth.

The visit was part of the Family for Literacy campaign by KPMG. The goal of the campaign is to provide books to students at need to help them enhance their reading skills. As part of the campaign, 500 Pershing students each received.

Hernandez was a member of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
