High School students from several NAF-Dallas ISD engineering, finance, and hospitality & tourism academies recently met with Verizon’s engineering leadership team to demo their senior projects and share business product ideas, shark tank-style. Students received immediate on-the-spot coaching from Verizon engineers, the friendly sharks, to take their concept to the next level.

Additionally, students heard from Verizon Chief Network Engineering Officer and STEM advocate Nicki Palmer and then engaged in an elevator pitch workshop and an internship discussion. Many of the students, now high school seniors, interned with Verizon last summer.

Students participated from these NAF-Dallas ISD engineering, finance, and hospitality & tourism academies:

  • Hillcrest High School, Academy of Engineering
  • Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship Academy, Academy of Finance
  • Justin F. Kimball High School, Academies of Engineering, and Hospitality &Tourism
  • Townview School of Science and Engineering Magnet, Academy of Engineering
  • Woodrow Wilson High School, Academies of Engineering, Finance, and Hospitality & Tourism

NAF is a national network of education, business, and community leaders who work together to ensure that high school students are college, career, and future ready. NAF has more than 9,000 students in 42 academies in 20 Dallas ISD high schools. NAF academy themes include finance, information technology, engineering, hospitality and tourism, and health sciences.

NAF academies in Dallas ISD are supported by the Career and Technical Education Department.
