“If you had an intro song when you walk into the classroom, what would it be?”

For Ivan Medina, a new teacher at Gilbert Cuellar Sr. Elementary School, the answer is simple.

“I’d play ‘La de la Mochila Azul,’ because a lot of my students are bilingual, and we could all relate to and connect with the song on the same level,” Medina said.

Medina was one of about 1,000 new Dallas ISD teachers who came to Fair Park on Aug. 8 as part of New Teacher Academy. The event provided the new teachers with the information and resources they need to be successful throughout the school year. District leaders and outstanding teachers shared advice with the new teachers and discussed the Teaching Excellence Initiative, student achievement goals, and much more.

The Hub came to the New Teacher Academy with a cup full of random questions to ask the newest educators in Dallas ISD. In addition to discussing  ntro songs, the teachers shared their thoughts on superheroes, whether the Dallas Cowboys have what it takes to go to the Super Bowl, and why they are excited to teach in Dallas ISD.
