Class of 2017 reports receiving more than $211 million in college scholarships

The Dallas ISD Class of 2017 has reported receiving nearly 5,730 scholarship or institutional grant offers totaling more than $211 million.

Almost 4,000 students in the Class of 2017 reported applying for a scholarship or institutional grant.

Superintendent Michael Hinojosa said the scholarship recipients and their families should be proud.

“These scholarships are just the first dividends from the countless hours invested in pursuit of academic excellence, an investment that will continue to pay off far into the future,” Hinojosa said.

The scholarship data is self-reported by seniors to their high school counselor or college access advisor.

Meanwhile, the district’s completion rate for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA), which is the gateway to most types of financial aid for college, has already surpassed that of last year. As of June 28, approximately 59 percent of the Class of 2017 graduates had completed the FASFA, which is three percentage points higher than the completion rate as of August 9, 2016, for the Class of 2016 graduates.
