A 2017 Skyline High School Graphic Design graduate will travel to New York City for the Games for Change Festival set for July 31-Aug. 2 after being named the Grand Prize Winner in the local contest.

Cecilia Briscoe won for her design of a game for K-8 students focusing on Climate Change.

The Games for Change program guided students through extensive research and the process to develop their projects based on three topics: Climate Change, Immigration Voice and Smart Cities.

Briscoe’s win came after Skyline teacher Emily Hughes-Ross introduced Game Design to her Graphic Design students. Besides Briscoe, graduate Pedro Ponce’s project won in the Immigration Voice category. Two other Skyline were finalists: graduate Francisco Vasquez, Smart Cities; and junior Christopher Reyna, Smart Cities.

An awards ceremony was conducted in June at the Frontiers of Flight Museum, in conjunction with the City of Dallas Turn Up event. Their games were on display as well.
