Robert T. Hill Middle School has been named a recipient of the 2017 Silver National Healthy Schools Award by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.

According to the Alliance’s website, the award is an honor given to showcase and acknowledge schools that have implemented changes to create healthier school environments. To earn an award, schools must meet best-practice criteria established by the Alliance’s Healthy Schools Program Expert Panel and outlined in the Healthy Schools Program Framework of Best Practices. Awards are granted at the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.

The process begins with a self-assessment that allows schools to:

  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the school’s policies and programs for promoting health and safety
  • Develop an action plan for improving student health and safety, customizable to the school
  • Build a team to help staff make the school a healthy school
