In hopes of encouraging more families to realize the benefits of prekindergarten for their children, trustees voted Thursday to expand tuition-supported pre-K classes to 14 additional campuses next year. The vote follows a one-year pilot of the tuition-based program at five schools and expands to 19 the number of campuses offering the tuition option for families who do not meet the requirements for free pre-K.

The list of the 19 campuses and more details about the tuition-based program are available on the district’s Early Learning web page. The board also approved a tuition rate of $525 per month per child, or $5,250 per year.

Starting April 4, parents are invited to apply for classes online or register at their neighborhood elementary school to reserve their child’s seat for next school year.

Dallas ISD pre-K is still free for families that meet at least one of the following requirements:

  1. The child is eligible to take part in the national free or reduced-price school lunch program. To find out if your child is eligible, click here.
  2. The child is unable to speak and comprehend the English language.
  3. The child is homeless.
  4. The child is a dependent of an active duty member of the U.S. armed forces.
  5. The child is or has been in foster care.
