Dallas ISD and DCCCD reveal industry partners for new expansion of collegiate academies

The Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) and Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) announced today the more than 24 Dallas businesses that will partner with the district’s 10 new collegiate academies opening next school year.

The industry partners will provide students with mentorship, job interviews, site visits, and some will be selected for internship opportunities. Dallas ISD and DCCCD revealed the new industry partners at a special ceremony held at City Performance Hall.

“We owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to these industry partners who have stepped up to provide real-world experience for our students,” Superintendent Michael Hinojosa said.

At the ceremony, DCCCD Chancellor Joe May commended all involved in the success of the collegiate academies. Students enrolled in a collegiate academy can earn up to 60 hours of college credit or an associate degree—at no cost to them—concurrently while earning a high school diploma.

“The Dallas County Community College District’s partnership with Dallas ISD is critical as we provide more opportunities for student success in our current collegiate academies with the addition of 10 more this fall,” May said. “We also are excited to work with our corporate partners in this effort to prepare young people for college and the world in which they will work and build careers.”

Dallas ISD and the DCCCD launched seven new collegiate academies and a P-TECH this school year. The programs opening next school year will bring the total to 18 collegiate academies.

Israel Cordero, chief strategic officer of Dallas ISD’s Strategic Initiatives and External Relations Department, noted the remarkable student interest in the collegiate academies. The collegiate academies received more than 4,800 applications for about half that many spots during the recent application period that was open Dec. 5 – Jan. 31.
