Hawthorne Elementary receives Power Up donation from Softchoice

Students at Dallas ISD’s Nathaniel Hawthorne Elementary School got a nice surprise on Friday, Jan. 27 – a donation of 70 laptops for students to use in their classrooms.

The Softchoice Cares POWER UP grant is valued at $10,000, and funded the purchase of enough Lenovo laptops for each Hawthorne student in grades 3-5 to have one to use in their classes. The school is one of five across the country to receive the donation.

After an assembly to make an announcement, students got busy using the laptops right away on a project. On Thursday, students brainstormed to identify some of the challenges the Pleasant Grove community faces. On Friday, teams of students picked one issue to address, came up with possible solutions and then conducted research on the computers to find ways to implement their solutions.
