Ben Milam Elementary student Bryan Gutierrez is going to Disney World after participating in the Oncor Mayor’s 5K Race.

Milam Elementary was one of nine Dallas ISD schools selected to attend a breakfast with Mayor Mike Rawlings after the Oncor Mayor’s Race 5K on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Schools were selected after applying for a Mayor’s Youth Fitness Initiative (MyFi) High-Five grant from the City of Dallas to support fitness initiatives for students and their families. During this breakfast, several prizes were given to students. Gutierrez won the grand prize – a trip to Walt Disney World.

The Oncor Mayor’s 5K Race celebrated the five-year anniversary of The Mayor’s Youth Fitness Initiative (MyFi). MyFi is Dallas’ own health and wellness program.

In 2011 with the help of Oncor, Mayor Mike Rawlings and the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Services partnered to implement healthy eating and active living programs for kids 6-12 years old and their families. MyFi focuses on five core components of Fitness, Nutrition, Measurement, Family involvement and Rewards.
