Lang students need your vote to receive $10,000 grant for innovative project

Bryan Tovar and Jorge Chairez, students at Lang Middle School, were named Ad Cap Team Innovator Finalists and won a $1,000 grant for their project.

Under the supervision of Dee Coyle, CTE Teacher at Lang, Tovar and Chairez attended a conference sponsored by Adventure Capital where they were challenged to think of an idea that would help kids increase their physical activity or help kids eat healthy while incorporating academics. The two boys pitched their idea called “Quick Equip.”

Quick Equip is a solution to Lang’s scarce playground equipment. Students are often scuffling over one or two sports balls. To counter that, Tovar and Chairez proposed creating a mobile cart that would house a variety playground equipment. The idea is that students who have A’s or B’s in their classes would receive a special sticker that would allow them to check out the equipment during recess.

Tovar and Chairez were one of the top 13 teams who are now eligible to compete for a $10,000 grant. The team with the most online votes will win. Voting is open December 1st – December 16th by clicking here.

The $10,000 grant would fund the purchase of multiple sets of sports equipment and cages to keep them in, as well as allowing the students to introduce Quick Equip to other schools.
