Brashear students get lesson in college life during UT Dallas visit

Students from Jimmy Tyler Brashear Elementary School toured the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) campus, enjoying a first glimpse at what a college campus looks like.

More than 100 fifth-graders from Brashear were greeted by UT Dallas students during the tour. The UT Dallas students talked about the steps it takes to get into college, how to apply for scholarships, and ways to be successful while in college.

Brashear staff provided this opportunity to expose their students to conversations on college at an early age. It’s an effort supported by the Dallas Independent School District that students be ready for college, or a career upon graduation.

As part of the tour, students met with professor Alex Piquero, a world-renowned educator, who shared stories on why science matters in an ever-changing society. Following their visit many of the scholars engaged in discussions on what college options would be right for them.
