District pilots program to accept credit card payments for school-related expenses

Dallas ISD is piloting a program that allows several schools to accept credit cards, debit cards, or an online “e-check” to pay for everything from field trips to fees.

The pilot program is active at Hillcrest High School and Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School, and will become active this spring at Skyline High School, Marsh Middle School, Bowie Elementary and Stemmons Elementary schools. The pilot program means parents can pay for school-related expenses online and not have to send a check or cash to school with their kid.

“We have long heard from parents who wanted to use their credit or debit card to pay for school-related expenses, so we are working to make that a reality,” said Darlene Williams, executive director of Treasury Services.

Dallas ISD is working with a vendor, RevTrak, to allow the schools to accept credit card, debit card and e-check payments. RevTrak charges a small convenience fee on the transactions, so Dallas ISD does not lose or make any money from the transactions. Parents still have the option to pay by check or cash.

Dallas ISD is aiming to have all schools able to accept credit card payments by the end of next school year.
