Elrod’s donates $21,107 to fund field trips for students

Representatives from Elrod’s Cost Plus Supermarket, which has multiple locations in the DFW area, presented a check for $21,107 to Dallas ISD’s Field Trip Fund on Wednesday.

Elrod’s representatives presented the check at Gilbert Cuellar Sr. Elementary’s “Muffins with Moms” event. Elrod’s started the Field Trip Fund so schools could send more students on educational field trips to locations such as the arboretum and zoo. The Field Trip Fund finances transportation to and from the field trip destinations.

Cuellar Elementary Principal Dr. Sheryl Wilson said the donation would greatly benefit students.

“There is so much to learn and see and do outside of these four walls, so thank you, Elrod’s, for this donation,” Wilson said.

Elrod’s Cost Plus Supermarket together with Dallas ISD’s Volunteer and Partnership Services Department worked together to set up its Dallas ISD Field Trip Fund last year after a teacher from W.A. Blair Elementary School contacted them. The teacher asked Elrod’s about potentially donating hot dogs for a fundraiser at the school. After talking with the teacher, Julia Johnson, Elrod’s marketing manager, said the family owned grocery chain decided to go a step further and set up a donation fund to help finance Dallas ISD field trips.

Customers at Elrod’s were able to contribute to the Field Trip Fund when they purchased their groceries at the store in August.
