What better way to get students excited about breakfast than to let them sell it to themselves? As part of National School Breakfast Week, Dallas ISD’s Food and Child Nutrition Services (FCNS) launched a school breakfast video contest with the directive to Eat. Record. Enjoy!
Middle and high school students were invited to create a 30 second video encouraging their fellow students to take advantage of the healthy breakfast options offered on all Dallas ISD campuses. Out of 25 submissions, three videos were recognized for their quality and creativity.
1st Place – Best Breakfast Promotion Video
Townview WSBM: The Face of Townview (Watch the video here)
2nd Place – Most Creative Breakfast Video
Townview KSBM Radio: The Voice of Townview (Watch the video here)
3rd Place – Outstanding Breakfast Video Performance
Bryan Adams Dance Department – Kellie Spirit Dancers (Watch the video here)
Townview School of Business and Management eleventh-grader Gerardo Orozco said, “I do eat school breakfast, and it’s a great start to my day. I feel the energy I get from school breakfast helps motivate me in school for my day of learning. Plus, the meal being free is a huge help to me as I’m preparing and saving my money for college.”
FCNS made a special visit to a Kellie Spirit Dancers practice to give them a sneak peek at some of the new smoothie flavors being tested for next year. The dancers got to be the first students to try out flavors including Tropical (pineapple, pears and mandarin orange), Peach Cobbler (Peach, cinnamon and nutmeg) and Strawberry Limeade (strawberry and lime).
Prizes included SD cameras and Apple products. FCNS looks forward to seeing what Dallas ISD students will cook up for next year’s competition!
