Cafeteria team at Mata Montessori recognized for going above and beyond

On the second day of School Nutrition Week, leadership from the Dallas ISD Food and Child Nutrition Services Department visited Eduardo Mata Elementary School to present the cafeteria team with the Heart of Child Nutrition Award.

The award celebrates cafeteria staff that go above and beyond to provide an exceptional food experience to students.

“The cafeteria staff at Eduardo Mata are superb,” FCNS Area Supervisor Nate Hulford said. “They are hardworking and dedicated to the students. They ensure every student receives a nutritious meal in a positive environment.”

The school’s cafeteria supervisor, Cytayi “Cici” Ramirez, was recognized for creating a personal relationship with every student she serves, going above and beyond her job duties.

The cafeteria staff at Mata Montessori is composed of five hardworking ladies who go above and beyond the call of duty by creating a personal relationship with each and every one of the 300 students they serve every day. The parents and staff of Eduardo Mata Elementary School spoke kindly of how the cafeteria staff are so loving and caring with everyone they encounter that they make the school feel like a family.

The parents of Mata Montessori are very impressed that their children have become interested in trying new things and attribute that to the wonderful staff that constantly encourages students to try new foods. In fact, this has led to the parents being involved in the cafeteria scene weekly to help out where they can.

“I love to serve the children, I feel that serving the children healthy meals is just as important as the education they receive at school,” Ramirez said. “The students are learning healthy habits that they will carry their entire lives.”
