Single-gender schools creating buzz (video)

The excitement continues to build as students prepare for next school year at Balch Springs Middle School when the campus transitions to an all-girl school. Students came out with their parents to find out more information about the Young Women’s STEAM Academy at Balch Springs which opens this fall.

It will be joined by the Young Men’s Leadership Academy at Fred F. Florence Middle School, which is transitioning to a single-gender school for the young men. Just under two miles apart, the schools are ideally located to become companion schools to each other.

Open to students throughout the district, both schools are the latest opportunities to spring up in Dallas ISD’s educational landscape.

Both campuses offered single-gender classes during the 2015-2016 school year to give students, staff and parents an opportunity to get a feel for the program.

Many of their thoughts were captured in this video highlighting what they enjoyed about the single-gender experience.

Open houses are continuing at both campuses, 5 to 6 p.m.:

At Balch Springs MS: May 3, May 17

At Fred Florence MS: May 5, May 19
