Dallas ISD officials joined the Dallas County Community College District at Eastfield College this week to announce the expansion of the Dallas ISD early college high school model.
Starting Fall 2016, Dallas ISD will add eight new collegiate academies with the support of DCCCD to offer up to 60 hours of college credit at no cost to the student. This means that by the time freshman entering the collegiate academies graduate high school, many will have completed enough college credit hours to receive an associate’s degree.
“The fact that we’ve had 1,300 eighth-graders that are becoming ninth-graders apply for the 800 slots—100 at each one of these high schools— shows there is an interest, an appetite, and also an opportunity we need to seize,” Superintendent Michael Hinojosa said.
