Dallas ISD offers a wide range of opportunities for students to realize their potential by offering programs designed to give them a competitive edge in the future marketplace.
With nationally-recognized schools and innovative instruction, Dallas ISD is just the place to shape your child into a global citizen.
Through its Two-Way Dual-Language program, students learn to read, write and speak a second language.
“Being completely immersed in another language during classroom instruction affords students the opportunity to consistently practice and develop multi-lingual skills,” said Dallas ISD Bilingual/ESL Instructional Specialist Demian Hernandez. “There are many two-way dual language programs out there. But what makes ours unique is that it remains a tuition-free opportunity. And what many people don’t know is that our program is one of the nation’s largest and longest running of its kind. Over the years we have fine-tuned the two-way dual language experience and the results have been students who demonstrate higher academic performance and have greater earning potential for a 21st century economy.”
Rhonda Edmundson has twins who’ve been in Dallas ISD’s Two-Way Dual Language program since kinder and understands the value of her daughters’ experience with learning a new language and experiencing other cultures.
“Our teachers in the DISD today, are challenging our students to be problem solvers – which is a great life skill. I think the two-way dual language program takes that a step further because not only are they looking to be problem solvers, but they’re trying to do this in a second language,” Edmundson said. “So, it requires more of them. It requires them to be intense studiers and really – knowledge seekers. And that’s part of the beauty of the program – the thirst for knowledge that these kids have.”
