Dallas ISD is encouraging qualified high school students to vote early in the March 1 primary election.
Early voting locations are open from 7 a.m.- 7 p.m. through tomorrow. Friday, Feb. 26, is the last day for early voting in the primary election.
Students can contact their school voting lead teacher to ask for an election guide that includes a list of all candidates on the ballot. Teacher leaders can also provide students with voter registration cards. The completed cards can be returned to the teacher who will submit them to complete the students’ registration.
“It is important for (students) to vote so they can exercise their civic duty so they have a voice in our democracy in the United States and participate in choosing the elected officials that govern the United States,” said Danielle Jones, a social studies coach at Bryan Adams High School.
To vote in Texas elections, all registered voters are now required to present an approved form of photo identification.
With the exception of the U.S. citizenship certificate, the identification must be current or have expired no more than 60 days before being presented for voter qualification at the polling place.
Acceptable forms of photo ID include:
- Texas drivers license issued by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
- Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
- United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph.
- United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph or a United States passport.
