Thomas Jefferson High School graduate Danny Lowry (2003) earned a degree in business and organizational management from Langston University in Oklahoma and returned home to work with Dallas ISD as a campus attendance clerk and eventually a registrar. But it didn’t take long for him to realize that what he wanted all along was to teach. He enrolled in an alternative certification program and earned his teachers certification in health education.

Today Lowry is a coach and teacher at Irving MacArthur High School where AlumNow, The Hub feature that profiles district alumni, caught up with him for an update.

What are you doing now?

I coach football and basketball and teach at Irving MacArthur High School. I also coach AAU High School Girls Basketball.

Briefly list a few of your career and/or personal highlights.

  • Received a scholarship to Langston University to play football
  • Won two conference championships-2005, 2008
  • Named 2nd Team All-Conference Quarterback-2008
  • Earned my degree in business administration/organizational management
  • Employed by Dallas ISD September 2010 as an attendance clerk and football/basketball coach

What was your favorite subject or activity/involvement in high school?

Algebra I and II. Coach Rob was simply a great teacher.

Who was your favorite teacher?

Ms. Cadigan. She didn’t care who you were or where you lived, she always treated everyone as if we belonged to her and still to this day!

What advice, if any, would you offer to high school students today?

Do not get discouraged by failure; learn from it and better yourself! Keep striving for greatness!

College/University and degree earned:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration/organizational management, Langston University, 2009
