Nakia Douglas, a Dallas ISD Principal of the Year, said that leading students at the Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy is similar to a parent raising their child.
He has watched his students grow and see their own dreams come true. He has been proud as his students have become stronger and more prepared to succeed after school.
“We are teaching our young men that every opportunity you have to learn and grow to become better, take full advantage of it,” Douglas said. “Embrace your challenges, embrace your struggles, because it’s preparing you for a future you can’t even imagine.”
Douglas is focused on the holistic development of the school’s students. His campus works on each of the district points of distinction: student engagement, family/community engagement and college and career readiness.
Assistant Principal Michelle Neely said Douglas leads by example and makes himself available to all students.
“Mr. Douglas is the consummate professional, and everything he does is to ensure that we, as a school, are developing young men into impactful leaders through the development of their intellectual, moral, physical, social, and emotional development for the global society of tomorrow,” Neely said.
Douglas was honored as a Principal of the Year during a December ceremony.
