Florence Middle School in Pleasant Grove is partnering with the community to offer a free Thanksgiving meal next week to its students and their families.

The “Feed the Grove” Thanksgiving meal is happening Nov. 23 from 6–8 p.m. in Florence Middle School’s cafeteria, 1625 N. Masters Dr. Florence Middle School Assistant Principal Sabrina Hodge said the school wanted to reach out and help those who might be alone or unable to prepare a meal for the holidays. The meal will include smoked turkey, green beans, rolls, tea, and more.

“I know sometimes students in our community don’t have the opportunity to sit down and have a hot Thanksgiving meal, which is something everyone should have the chance to enjoy,” said Sabrina Hodge, an assistant principal at Florence Middle School. “We want to give them that opportunity, so they know that they are loved and have support from us and the community during this holiday time.”

Staff, students, local church groups, and members from the community have signed up to volunteer to help out with the event. Walmart and Fiesta have donated food and supplies, and Record’s Barbecue will smoke the turkeys for the event. People can still donate or volunteer by contacting Hodge at shodge@dallasisd.org or by calling 972-749-6000.

“It’s been so rewarding to see our school and the surrounding community come together to put this event on,” Hodge said. “At first, we didn’t know if this was something we could pull off. But the community really got behind us, and it’s something we look forward to hosting in years to come.”
