Weekend events offer free school supplies, haircuts

The greater Dallas community plays a vital role in supporting Dallas ISD.

And with school starting Aug. 24, many businesses, churches, and community groups are stepping up to help ensure students have the supplies and haircuts they need.

Below are some of the events scheduled for this weekend, some of which still offer free school supplies and backpacks. Please note: Most of these events require registering online.

Saturday, August 15

For Oak Cliff

School supplies will be given away to up to 5,000 students that live in select zip codes. Students must be registered online to receive supplies. The event will also feature a job fair, performances, live art, preK registration, and a college fair.

When: 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Back to School Extravaganza and Super Saturday

The event will feature free health screenings, games, more than 40 resource booths, face paintings, and free school supplies only for students of Wilmer-Hutchins area schools.

Elrod’s

Elrod’s will host dance performances, product demonstrations, a clown show, face painting and animal balloons in hopes of promoting donations to the Field Trip Fund that will benefit Dallas ISD students.

Transform

The event aims to serve the local community that surrounds the Village Church campus by providing health screenings and more to those in need.

Back to School Collaboration Event

While the event is out of backpacks, students can receive school physicals starting at 8 a.m. and general fair information starting at 9 a.m.

“Get the Job”: Career Preparedness Workshop and School Supply Giveaway

At the event, free school supplies is guaranteed to the first 50 people that register online.

Exline Recreation Center Back to School Carnival and School Supply Giveaway

Early bird registration, which guarantees a backpack full of supplies for a student, is full. However, general registration is still open. With general registration, supplies are given out on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Step Up Back to School Bash

At Bancroft Outreach’s first Backpack Bash, registered attendees can get free backpacks and free haircuts. Registration is still open.
