Students at the seven campuses that will receive additional support under the Accelerating Campus Excellence plan received pledges this week that state expectations for them and their parent or guardian next school year.
The ACE plan, which district leaders announced in February, injects seven underperforming schools with strong leadership, effective teachers and high expectations. The pledge is a part of the district’s effort to create high expectations at the ACE campuses.
“As Dallas ISD seeks to prepare all students for college and career, we are committed to providing every student with a quality education,” the pledge states. “Parents and students are key partners in this effort, so we are seeking your support to ensure that your student has the best school year possible in 2015-16.”
A parent or guardian can either opt-in and have their student return to one of the seven schools that will receive additional support as an ACE campus, or opt-out and have their student attend the closest non-Improvement Required school.
Below are the expectations listed in the pledge:
The seven ACE campuses, all of which have previously been designated by the Texas Education Agency as Improvement Required, for the 2015–16 school year are:
- Annie Webb Blanton Elementary
- Dade Middle School
- Roger Q. Mills Elementary
- Elisha M. Pease Elementary
- Umphrey Lee Elementary
- Thomas A. Edison Middle Learning Center
- Sarah Zumwalt Middle School
The ACE plan provides a financial incentive of up to $12,000 to the district’s high-performing teachers who voluntarily transfer to teach at an ACE campus. Additionally, students at ACE schools will receive an additional hour of instruction each day, as well as be able to remain at the school until 6 p.m. daily in order to complete homework or attend tutoring sessions.
