District closing in on teacher hiring goal

Educating the 160,000 students in Dallas ISD requires nearly 12,000 teachers. The Human Capital Management department has been charged with placing an effective teacher in every classroom by the start of the 2015-2016 school year.

With the May 30 teacher job fair on the horizon, that goal is squarely within reach.

“We’ve had a great recruiting and hiring season so far,” said Dallas ISD Talent Leader Jordan Carlton. “We’ve issued around 800 early contracts and over 1,000 teachers have already received job offers, so we’re very close to our goal.”

The majority of remaining openings are in critical needs areas, including elementary bilingual and secondary math and science.

“But there is definitely still opportunity in many different areas,” Carlton noted.

Recruitment incentives are in place for the following:

  • Elementary Bilingual: $4,000
  • Secondary Mathematics: $3,000
  • Secondary Science: $3,000
  • Novice/New Hire GPA incentive: $1,000 to $4,000

“I encourage anyone interested in Dallas ISD to join us on May 30 so they can learn more about the district and potentially receive a job offer,” Carlton said.
