Know someone interested in attending one of Dallas ISD’s new Transformation Schools for the 2015-2016 school year? The application deadline for the D.A. Hulcy Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) Middle School and the Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Academy High School at James W. Fannin is this Friday, May 15. Application sites and online applications can be found on the Dallas ISD website.
In the above video, parents and students say they are interested in one of the new Choice Schools because they provide more areas of study for STEAM subjects and offer personalized learning.
Courtney Egelston, assistant principal of Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Academy High School explained her school will focus on next generation skills, including innovative thinking and collaboration. Students will work with their peers in small groups, and with the laptops that are part of the program they can learn anywhere.
The school will open to incoming ninth graders, and will add a grade level each year to become a full 9th – 12th grade high school. Each grade will be limited to about 100 students.
Students entering sixth-grade in the fall can apply to Hulcy STEAM Middle School, which will also add a grade level each year to become a 6th – 8th grade campus. STEAM Principal Jonica Lockwood said she is excited to see students at the school work in a collaborative environment where the STEAM principles are implemented and integrated.
“We will foster 21st century skills that prepare students to be college and career ready,” she said.
As with the Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Academy High School, a limited number of students will be in each grade level.
