Calling all techies in grades K-12: Dallas ISD Health and Physical Education invites you to create and submit digital projects emphasizing health and fitness to the first-ever Tech Fest Media Fair. The media fair/contest is your chance to tell your peers and the public why you value health and fitness and how healthy habits make peoples’ lives better.

Students who submit entries in the following categories could win tech gadgets such as pocket projectors, USB flash drives, wristband pedometers, and more. The entries should communicate the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices and be done in one of the following formats:

  • Video
  • Digital animation
  • Digital audio file
  • Digital photography
  • Desktop publishing
  • Multimedia project

Interested? Send your healthy tech project contest entry to http://tiny.cc/mvp2015 by the May 13 deadline. Winning entries will be placed on display to share with the public at the Health and Physical Education Tech Fest celebration happening Thursday, May 21, at Ann Richards Middle School.

For more information, download descriptions and examples of the project categories and view a list of frequently asked questions about the competition. Questions about the contest should be directed to the Health and Physical Education Department at 972-925-6790.

Health and Physical Education Director Barbara Johnson said the contest and Tech Fest are examples of the methods physical education teachers are using to get student to buy into practicing healthy habits.

“Now, more than ever, it is imperative for teachers to design engaging instructional experiences that speak the language of today’s modern students,” Johnson said. “That’s why the Health and Physical Education Department is striving to place more emphasis on technology resources and effective instruction that caters to all students, not just those who are naturally athletic or physically active. We hope to harness the productivity and appeal of technology to give every child a comprehensive education that instills in them a lifelong love for being physically healthy.”
