Select seniors from every Dallas ISD comprehensive and magnet high school will receive commitments for $2,500 scholarships at Tuesday’s annual Superintendent’s Scholarship Reception at Emmett Conrad High School.
Parents, principals, school counselors and trustees will be on hand to congratulate the 62 students selected by their campus scholarship committees to receive the awards based on need, character, grades, essays and recommendations.
This is the 15th year of the Superintendent’s Scholarship Program, which has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships since its inception. The scholarships are funded through an annual fundraiser, traditionally the Superintendent’s Scholarship Golf Tournament. This year, on May 16, the fundraiser will take the form of the Superintendent’s Scholarship 5K run.
Among the scholarships to be announced at the event:
- Three students will receive $10,000 awards from the Sulentic Family Foundation Scholarship Fund;
- An outstanding scholar athlete will receive the $5,000 Eric Louis Brown Scholarship;
- The student with the top GPA among the superintendent’s scholars will receive the $2,000 Jose “Joe” May Scholarship created by the family of the late Dallas ISD trustee.
