Seven job fair tips for Dallas ISD candidates

0

On Wednesday, The Hub provided basic information such as where to park, how to register, and what to bring to the district’s annual job fair happening March 21 from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. at Emmett J. Conrad High School, 7502 Fair Oaks Ave.

Because the Dallas ISD recruitment and selection team is committed to achieving the district’s goal of having an effective teacher in every classroom, the district’s recruitment team has compiled seven tips to help candidates best prepare for the job fair. And, remember, you can still register for the job fair here.

Get Prepared
Prepare for a job fair the same way you would for an interview – get plenty of sleep the night before, dress professionally, make sure you eat something, and take a few minutes before you walk in to get mentally prepared to present yourself to several potential employers.

Bring Your Resume
Bring plenty of copies of your resume and make sure your certification is included on it. If you’re not certified yet, you must include your alternative certification information, future test dates, and the date you anticipate receiving your certificate.

Be Strategic
Research schools you’re interested in and visit your top schools first. We will send you all the details you need in advance – which schools will be in attendance, vacancy information, school booth locations and more, so use that information to plan.

Do Your Research
Research the school performance of the campuses you’re interested in to demonstrate a commitment to the success of the school and their mission. Also have a working knowledge of the Dallas ISD mission and initiatives.

Show Your Work
Bring samples of your best work, such as student work, documents you’ve created, or lesson plans. Every principal might not request it, but it’s good to have on hand just in case a principal would like to view your work as part of the interview.

Have a Plan
Be cognizant of interview lines and use your time wisely. Prepare an introduction to make yourself standout from other candidates and show the school representative that you respect their time as well.

Ask for Help
If you’re unsure of what to do or where to go next, ask! Plenty of staff will be on hand to help you with any questions you might have. Just look for someone wearing a “staff” nametag. We want to make sure you get everything out of the job fair that you’re hoping to achieve.
