Sunset High Bisonettes offered opportunity of a lifetime

Updated – 11/7/14

A GoFundMe account has been created to support the Bisonette’s trip to Hawaii.

Original story

The Sunset High School Bisonette Drill Team never dreamed the long hours they put into planning and rehearsals would lead to an invitation to perform in Honolulu, Hawaii, but just a few weeks ago that’s exactly what happened. Bisonettes’ director Laura Cervera received word from the performance director of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade that this group of young women had been selected to represent the state of Texas in the upcoming event.

The Bisonettes would perform alongside U.S. veterans in the parade on Dec. 7, and would also be part of special performance on the USS Missouri Tribute Ship. In addition, the experience would include trips to the Pearl Harbor Museum and Polynesian Cultural Center, giving the students a chance to earn school credit.

The only thing standing in their way is the funding required for the team to travel to the event. “We must raise at least $50,000 by mid-November,” said Cervera. She and other Sunset staff are committed to doing “whatever it takes to make this dream of an invite a reality for these students.”
“The young women on the team are making every effort to raise the funds needed to finance the trip,” Cervera said. “But their fundraising alone will not fulfill the amount required to achieve this experience of a lifetime.” They are reaching out to the community for support in helping them reach their funding goal.
