Any parent or guardian of an English language learner in Dallas ISD is invited to an upcoming Dual Language Parent Academy. Participants will receive information, ideas, and resources in both English and Spanish to support their student’s academic progress and language acquisition. Dallas ISD Racial Equity Office and Centralized Enrollment are hosting a series of Application Workshops at area libraries for families interested in applying to the district’s specialty schools. The first workshop was held Jan. 8 at the Dallas West Library. More than 20 families came out to learn more about the many options available at the district’s magnet and other application-based programs. As he presented a $100,000 check donation to the Dallas Education Foundation to support Dallas ISD schools impacted by the Oct. 20 tornado, John Trevino, the vice president and general manager of KDAF-TV (CW-33), remarked how this donation was especially close to his heart. Dallas ISD’s Attendance Improvement and Truancy Reduction celebrated Attendance Awareness Month with a contest. The ”Show Up” campaign urged students to have no more than five absences each school year. The contest challenged schools to have the best overall attendance and have as many of their students have perfect attendance for the month of September. Trustee Champion School Winners, which had the highest overall attendance, were: District 1: George B. Dealey Montessori Academy District 2: Henry W.
