Dallas ISD educators and administrators can now apply for a $20,000 scholarship to continue their post-baccalaureate education to benefit the Dallas ISD community and its students. The Credit Union of Texas established the William H. Cotton Scholarship in 2016. The scholarship is named after William H. Cotton, a Dallas ISD and credit union trailblazer. In celebration of School Board Recognition Month, we are spotlighting the nine dedicated unpaid volunteers who serve as Dallas ISD trustees. At the age of 27, Miguel Solis was elected to the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees in 2013 and has since been re-elected twice. He recently announced he will not seek reelection for his District 8 seat, which represents Love Field, Northwest Dallas and Central Dallas.  During his tenure on the board, Solis has served as President and Vice-President, making him the youngest ever to hold these positions. Ten students who attend the Townview Magnet Center have received a total of $42,812 in scholarships from CIEE to study abroad this summer in France, Belgium, Spain, France, Japan, Italy, China and Morocco. Trustee Ben Mackey served as principal of Dallas ISD’s School for the Talented and Gifted from 2013 to 2019. During those years, U.S. News and World Report named the school, also known as the TAG magnet, the nation’s top high school for four years.
