In the spirit of keeping “Dallas ISD On the Move,” the Health and Physical Education Department encouraged staff, students and families to participate in the 2021 Oncor Kids Race on Saturday, Dec. 11. This event provided an opportunity to engage Dallas ISD schools in a community activity that was developed to promote the importance of physical fitness and daily physical activity. The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) is proud to recognize the Dallas Independent School District for excellence in budget presentation with the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for the 2021–2022 budget year. ASBO International’s MBA and Pathway to the MBA promote and recognize best budget presentation practices in school districts. The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation and Niagara Cares volunteers renovated Lincoln High School’s weight room and auxiliary weight room, added new flooring to the faculty fitness space, and cleaned, purchased and assembled new equipment and storage throughout all three fitness areas at a cost of $75,000. Additionally, they purchased technology and furniture to equip STEM Labs at Boude Storey Middle School (valued at $30,663), Sarah Zumwalt Middle School ($30,663), and W.M. Young Elementary School ($22,117). Workers and staff at Lincoln and Storey Boude assembled some of the new equipment.
This past weekend, 22 schools competed in the Districtwide Online Academic Decathlon Meet. Of those participating campuses, School of Science and Engineering and School for the Talented & Gifted received the highest team points in their respective divisions: medium and small. With the theme Water: A Most Essential Resource, more than 200 secondary students were tested in several areas including music, art, literature, math, economics, and social science.
