Tablets or Textbooks? Dallas ISD fifth graders had much to say about this topic at their first debate tournament of the season, where 208 students from 26 elementary schools came together at Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy to argue the advantages and disadvantages of using tablets in schools. The teams of three filled roughly 40 classrooms and simultaneously debated two rounds, one round for the affirmative and another for the negative. In the spirit of keeping “Dallas ISD On the Move,” the Health and Physical Education Department encouraged staff, students and families to participate in the 2021 Oncor Kids Race on Saturday, Dec. 11. This event provided an opportunity to engage Dallas ISD schools in a community activity that was developed to promote the importance of physical fitness and daily physical activity. The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation and Niagara Cares volunteers renovated Lincoln High School’s weight room and auxiliary weight room, added new flooring to the faculty fitness space, and cleaned, purchased and assembled new equipment and storage throughout all three fitness areas at a cost of $75,000. Additionally, they purchased technology and furniture to equip STEM Labs at Boude Storey Middle School (valued at $30,663), Sarah Zumwalt Middle School ($30,663), and W.M. Young Elementary School ($22,117). Workers and staff at Lincoln and Storey Boude assembled some of the new equipment.
