Thanks to a generous gift from Lyda Hill Philanthropies, Texas Women’s Foundation awarded a $40,000 grant to Young Women’s Steam Academy at Balch Springs Middle School and a $15,000 grant to Solar Preparatory School for Girls to increase usage of the IF/THEN Collection. The IF/THEN Collection is the world’s largest free resource of authentic and relatable photos, videos and biographies celebrating diverse, contemporary women in STEM careers and roles. The two Dallas ISD schools can use the IF/THEN® Collection for free for non-commercial purposes to highlight and elevate these STEM role models in order to inspire young girls to pursue STEM careers. The Dallas ISD Baseball Academy will be held June 21-24 for Dallas ISD students currently in grades 3 through 6. The event will take place Monday through Thursday from 6-8 p.m. The academy, which will focus on individual skill development and training for our future Dallas ISD baseball champions, will be held six different high schools, including Molina, W.T. White, Skyline, Hillcrest, Madison, and Seagoville as well as at Higgins Field and Pleasant Grove Field. Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union named Akash Patel, a Spanish teacher at Ignite Middle School, as its 2021 Appreciated Teacher of the Year. The award comes with a $2,500 grand prize, which was given to Patel in his classroom. In addition to being an outstanding teacher, Patel also founded Happy World Foundation, a global citizenship nonprofit that connects educators around the world.
