WFAA 8 did a report on the interest being shown in the two new Dallas ISD Choice Schools. Students can apply to attend either D.A. Bryan Adams student Guadalupe Serrato wrote this article. Dominique Nicole James this week became the first ever Bryan Adams High School student to be awarded the Gates Millennium Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to 1,000 students nationwide each year and will cover her entire tuition at any university in which she is accepted. “I set myself up to be prepared in case I didn’t get it, so I was totally surprised when I learned that I had been awarded the scholarship,”James said. A retired registered nurse and teacher, Audrey King began volunteering at T.G. Terry Elementary to give back to her community four years ago. King said it is rewarding to work with excellent administrators, teachers and faculty. King feels volunteering is a great way to support community schools.
John F. Kennedy Learning Center played host to its 10th-annual College/Career Day on Friday, May 1. Representatives from more than 15 colleges and universities, City of Dallas and Dallas County departments and businesses discussed their education and career paths with students. Institutions of higher learning that were represented included SMU, TCU, UNT, TWU, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas A&M-Texarkana, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Baylor, UT-Dallas, UT-Southwestern, UT-Arlington, Oklahoma State and El Centro College.
